Kanavaa, New Channel ID & News
Finally the three of us got together after a period of 16 months! Sure it was a long and painful gap for us. We (Shyam and Praveen) went to India during our month long fall break. We also upgraded our studio with new equipment. Two new workstations (Korg M3 Workstation and a Yamaha Motif XS), a new condenser mic, and a pre amp are welcome additions to TSJ STUDIO :). The keyboards are really great but we didn't get enough time to explore them fully. However, we did manage to do some music. Composed two songs and two jingles.
Thanks to our singers, instrumentalists and lyricist for coming by our place and helping us for without them we wouldn't have been able to finish these songs/pieces.
Kanavaa

Vocals : Karthik Krishnamurthy, Anusha Pradeep
Lyrics : Ilaya
Music: Shyam Prasan Praveen
Song recorded and mixed at TSJ STUDIO, Chennai.
Started of with this one(probably the next day we landed in Chennai). It took us a long time to finalize the tune. All three of us were totally out of form (reminded us of Rahul Dravid at Melbourne!) and it took us few days to come back to our normal groove. Also had to spend a long time in learning the new synths and browsing through those tone banks and effects.
Karthik Krishnamurthy is Shyam's cousin. He is currently in SFO and he does quite a few stage shows in and around SFO. Luckily he had been to Chennai that time and we called him to sing this song for us. Thanks so much Karthik, for your time and effort. Hopefully you had a better experience this time around, as compared to the song that we recorded five years ago!
Anusha Pradeep, many thanks to you for rendering your beautiful vocals. Anusha participated in a music competition hosted by Vijay TV ( Vijay TV Paadum Office) and she won the first prize in Carnatic Vocals. Congrats Anusha :).
Channel ID
We started working on the Channel ID and News during Summer 07, but never got a chance to complete it that time.
These two jingles are for a Tamil Channel and for a News Channel and both the channels(managed by same group) are shortly to begin its broadcast in U.S.A.

Hey Ravin thanks so much. We think we still need to improve a lot before getting into album or movie stuff. But if we get some good opportunity we will sure try work on it.

Hi, i hav been visiting your blog to find new songs every now and then..Kanavaa, Very few songs give you a smile as u listen to a song and Kanavaa just has all tat :)

TSJ team:
Welcome back and finally I am kinda settled to hear songs after all the moving and shifting. It is always refreshing to see you back in action.
That said, a hiatus could either refresh and instill new blood or could let you accumulate rust. I am afraid, this song is more indicative of the latter.
Strong influence of some previous songs, for example neera..theerththam pOndra theeya - shows up in the first line kanavaa itself. Arpeggiated orchestration has been a strong point of your compositions always. however, in this song I cannot escape the feeling that the arpeggiated patterns offer nothing new from azage azage. I think that song was artistically crafted and well executed by your team and you are yet to get out of its understandably strong impressions.
Karthik's vocals are fine. But Anusha's vocals are a mixed bag. She has some brilliant moments but goes flat in many places too. "neeyada" in two places need subtle improvements. The aalaap in the middle has a strong flavor of "raat bhar dhuaan chale" (jiya jale) at the end emphasizing that there should have been a little more thought in the construction of the aalaap.
Also, while I admired the way Karthik enunciated each word thus bringing out the flavor of the lyrics, Anusha has pronounced the words without much emphasis. I know it is trendy to sing 'light' on words, but believe me this 'trend' was apparently an aberration by Sadhana Sargam (who was struggling to get the tamil right) which got unmitigatedly propagated as a 'style' much to the dismay of lyrics lovers. You cannot ever see a legend like Chitra or a talented singer like Sujata sing verses 'light'. More stress on syllables would bring out the contrast between them thus lighting up the entire song.
You set yourself high standards in the earlier songs. It would be difficult for music lovers who follow you to see you slip.
Great to see a new song up after checking the blog every day :)
Nice stuff as usual, though it doesn't make a striking impression like azhage did for me. Keep up the great work, guys!
Btw, your post mentions two songs and two jingles, you've only uploaded one song. You'll be putting up another some time soon?
Hi Guys
Your music is too good. I am hearing this for the first time and its great. I went to Chemistry tuition with Praveen. I still remember, one day I called him to enquire about the tuition timings and he played me Vaseegara song on the numbers of the phone. It was amazing.
Kanavaa song is amazing. The music, the voice, the lyrics, everything is really cool.
All the best guys for your future. Waiting to listen more songs from you.
Cheers!!
Anand Iyer
Sorry guys for our late response... School kept all of us really tight for past 3 - 4 weeks. Just got some time during spring break :)
@atomicarena : thanks for istening to our song and say our thanks to your friend :)
@santosh: thanks for your comments will sure pass it on to our singer.
@chitra and Musicman - thanks guys for listening. Really glad that you liked the song and brought smile too :)
@Murali : Murali thanks so much for your time and for your valuable input. Coming to the song, yes we do realize that we are using alot of Arpegios, we are sure trying to come out of that ring.
hmmmm not too sure about the influences.... we were sure not influenced by "Jiya jale", may be we should have taken more care while doing the interlude, anyways thanks for pointing it out :). Anusha's vocal was recorded on our last day @chennai so that probably one reason why we din't concentrate much on her syllables. Nevertheless it was our mistake for not taking care of it...
Murali thank once again for time... And we appreciate all you guys for always giving us another chance to improve and helping us by listening to our song and giving us your feed back. Hopefully we will do something better in our next song.
@kanna and Anand Iyer : Thank you so much for checking our blog regularly and thanks for your comments . Please keep visiting our blog regularly and we are hoping to get done with our next song soon. Thanks for pointing out the bad link guys. Will fix them shortly

anon, if you're the one who made the video, please credit Shyam, Prasan and Praveen in the video info. Their music is professional enough to be mistaken for a film song, as shown by the Ragasiyam issue, and there's no need to allow for random rumours when people see the song online. :)
Hi guys!!! Needless to say you are rocking. There is no doubt that you guys have your own style of composition.Keep up the good work.I need a small information from you guys. I wish to set up a small studio in my house .I don't know what sort of budget is needed and i am looking for some basic recording stuffs only.Could you guys give me some guidance ?

Good luck on all your ventures!
Hi!
When I listen to a song, I dont care about the instruments used or the thinking behind it or how technically perfect it is . as long it makes me feel pleasant, positive or meditative, I am fine with any genre of music.
and that's why I like the Kanava song. It reminds my fiance and me of our early days of courtship and the innocent romance we shared when we first started out 6 years ago :)
Keep up the good job guys!
